Gratitude & Thanks
Gratitude is part of our classroom culture. We notice the people who help us, the moments that matter, and the good happening around us — and then we do something with that gratitude.
The Wall of Gratitude
Our Wall of Gratitude gives students a simple way to recognize people, moments, opportunities, and acts of kindness they appreciate. Gratitude is more powerful when it moves from something we think to something we express.
A Gift I’ll Always Treasure
During my first year at Winnebago Public Schools, my fifth graders surprised me with a gift that captured what our classroom had become. A student helped make the necklace portion, and Ms. Shipman and her Family and Consumer Science class worked with my students to create a medallion for me.
The medallion says Mr. Funky Teacher and You Can Change the World. I treasure it because it came from students and colleagues who turned the words we talk about in class into something I could carry with me.
Thank Someone Today
Who has helped you, encouraged you, taught you, included you, or made your day better? Tell them. Write them a note. Help them back.
Gratitude can change someone’s day — and changing someone’s day is one way we change the world.
