Do the Hard Thing
Sometimes you know what needs to happen. You just do not feel like doing it.
1. Name the Hard Thing
Be specific: “The hard thing I need to do is ________.”
2. Ask Why You Are Avoiding It
- It feels boring.
- I might fail.
- It will take effort.
- I do not know exactly how it will go.
- I would rather do something easier.
Naming the reason does not excuse avoiding it. It helps you choose a response.
3. Lower the Starting Line
Choose a first action that is hard enough to matter but small enough to begin: five minutes, one problem, one paragraph, one conversation, one honest sentence.
4. Use Future You
Ask: “What choice will make things better for me later?”
Try It
You have a project due later this week. You keep choosing games instead of starting. What is the smallest honest version of “do the hard thing” right now?
💡 Funky Tip
Courage often looks ordinary. It may just be opening the document, telling the truth, asking the question, or starting before you feel ready.
I can do hard things.
The affirmation becomes real when you practice doing difficult things one choice at a time.
🎒 Take It With You
Do not wait until the hard thing feels easy. Make the first useful move.
