Make a Tough Decision
Leadership decisions are often hard because more than one thing matters.
1. Name the Decision
Say it clearly: “We need to decide whether/how ________.”
2. Identify What Matters
- Who will be affected?
- What are the possible benefits?
- What could go wrong?
- What is fair?
- What fits the purpose?
- What values should guide the choice?
3. Listen Before You Decide
If the decision affects other people, their perspectives may reveal something you missed.
4. Choose and Explain
A leader should be able to explain the reasoning without pretending the choice is perfect.
Try It
Your group has only enough time to finish two of three project ideas. Each person prefers something different. How could the group make the decision fairly?
💡 Funky Tip
A tough decision is not automatically a choice between “right” and “wrong.” Sometimes it is a choice between competing good things.
I am smart.
Strong decisions use information, perspective, values, and reflection.
🎒 Take It With You
Clarify → listen → weigh what matters → decide → explain.
