I Have Something to Say—How Do I Say It?
Having something worth saying is only the beginning. Your job is to shape the message so another person can understand it.
1. Know Your Point
Finish this sentence: “The main thing I want people to understand is ________.”
2. Know Your Audience
What do they already know? What might they misunderstand? What tone will help them listen?
3. Choose What Belongs
Keep the details, examples, reasons, and stories that help your main point. Leave out the parts that only make the message longer.
4. Make It Sound Like You
Clear does not have to mean formal. Use words you understand and would actually say.
Try It
You want your class to try a new recess activity. Write or say:
- Your main point.
- One reason it matters.
- One detail or example.
- A clear next step or request.
💡 Funky Tip
Do not make your audience dig through ten ideas to find the one you care about.
I matter.
Your voice matters—and clarity helps other people hear what you mean.
🎒 Take It With You
Know the point → know the audience → choose what belongs → say it clearly.
