The Funky Student Voice & Podcasting Studio
A microphone does not automatically create student voice. Strong student media starts with something worth saying, careful preparation, responsible choices, and respect for the people who may hear it.
The Studio Workflow
IDEA → QUESTIONS → PLAN → RESEARCH/INTERVIEW → STORY/OUTLINE → RECORD → EDIT → SHARE RESPONSIBLY → REFLECT
IDEA
What is worth talking about? What do you care about, wonder about, know something about, or want other people to understand?
QUESTIONS
What questions could open the topic instead of closing it down? What do you still need to learn?
PLAN
Decide the purpose, audience, format, roles, approximate length, and what a listener should take away.
RESEARCH / INTERVIEW
Check facts before repeating them. When interviewing, ask permission to record, listen for follow-ups, and represent the person fairly.
STORY / OUTLINE
Create a path for the listener. A simple structure can be:
- Hook or opening question
- What the episode is about
- Main ideas, stories, evidence, or interview
- What the listener should remember
- Closing
RECORD
Speak naturally and clearly. A mistake does not require starting the whole episode over. Pause, repeat the line, and keep going.
EDIT
Remove distractions, long dead space, repeated mistakes, or parts that do not help the listener. Editing should make the message clearer—not change what a person meant.
SHARE RESPONSIBLY
- Follow school/adult permission rules before publishing student names, voices, images, or identifying information.
- Do not share private information just because it makes the story more interesting.
- Use music, sound effects, images, and clips you have permission or rights to use.
- Check names, facts, quotations, and credits.
- Think about whether the episode treats people fairly and respectfully.
REFLECT
Afterward ask: What worked for the listener? What felt authentic? What would we improve next time?
Try It: Build a 3-Minute Episode
Create a tiny episode plan:
- Topic: What is it about?
- Purpose: Why should someone listen?
- Opening: What pulls the listener in?
- Middle: What story, interview, fact, or idea carries the episode?
- Closing: What should stay with the listener?
Before You Hit Record
- Do we know our purpose?
- Are our facts ready?
- Do guests know they are being recorded?
- Does everyone know their role?
- Are we sharing anything private or identifying that should stay private?
- Do we have permission to use any outside media?
💡 Funky Tip
Do not chase “professional.” Chase clear, real, prepared, and worth listening to.
I can change the world.
Your voice can inform, encourage, preserve stories, ask important questions, celebrate people, and help others see something differently.
🎒 Take It With You
