Hainipi… That means hi or hey in a friendly way.

Jason: Hi everyone. Welcome to The BAGO Mic, powered by Student Voice, where students lead the way.

Nick: We are students from Winnebago Public Schools broadcasting from the Winnebago Native American Reservation in Winnebago, Nebraska.

Jason: This podcast is created by us for the world.

Jason: Let’s start by introducing ourselves. My name is Jason.

Nick: My name is Nick.

Jason: Today’s episode is about our fifth grade year, advice for next year’s students, and passing The BAGO Mic onto the next class.

Before we begin, we want to share something we are thankful for.

Jason: I am thankful for life.

Nick: I am thankful for my mom.

Jason: Now let’s get into it. Once again, the topic we are talking about is our fifth grade year, advice for next year, and passing the mic.

Nick: What was your favorite memory this year?

Jason: My favorite memory is when we went to the play with the Hades thing. It was really fun because I liked how they acted and everything. I thought it would only be half an hour, but it ended up being spread over two days. What was your favorite memory this year?

Nick: Probably me getting my dog Kaido.

Jason: When did you get her?

Nick: Like a week ago.

Jason: What was something funny that happened?

Jason: Something funny this year was when Mr. Craig came in and started singing in the classroom.

Nick: Why was it funny?

Jason: Because he was standing in the doorway singing.

Jason: What was something funny for you?

Nick: When I walked into a pole.

Jason: Wait, where were you?

Nick: By my house.

Jason: What was something hard this year?

Nick: Probably the NSCAS test.

Jason: Something hard for me was reading because I don’t always understand stories and stuff, but I did like Wonders.

Nick: What surprised you about this year?

Jason: I was surprised we started doing podcasts because I thought we’d just be writing more.

Nick: I thought we weren’t going to learn as much stuff this year, but we did.

Jason: What is something you got better at?

Jason: I got better at math. I used to struggle, but I kept learning more and more and now I like math. I also got a little better at reading.

Nick: I got better at reaching my goals. I got better at basketball and got better at reaching goals in general.

Jason: What is something you were nervous about at first?

Jason: I got nervous when we started talking about podcasts because I thought we were going to be writing instead.

Nick: I was nervous after taking the NSCAS tests because I didn’t know if I would improve. Reading is hard for me, but all the work paid off. I felt confident about math though.

Jason: What is something you’re proud of from this year?

Nick: My birthday because I realized I’m getting older.

Jason: I’m proud that I got better at math and talking with people more because I used to be really nervous talking.

Nick: What is something you remember from this class?

Jason: Larry the Skeleton, memories with friends, and all the art projects I made.

Nick: My friends and teachers because they helped me a lot.

Jason: What should next year’s students not worry about?

Nick: Accomplishing goals and being afraid of Mr. Kleve because he’s a good teacher.

Jason: They shouldn’t worry about getting problems wrong because mistakes happen.

Nick: What should they take seriously?

Nick: Homework and actions.

Jason: Homework, behavior, and being nice and kind because nobody wants a classroom full of mean words.

Nick: And education because it helps determine your future.

Jason: What helps you succeed in fifth grade?

Jason: Taking my time and not getting distracted.

Nick: My focus and my teacher.

Jason: How did the teacher help?

Nick: He helped us learn better and prepare for sixth grade. He taught us we can do hard things.

Jason: What would you do differently?

Nick: Make harder mistakes and challenge myself more in math.

Jason: I would take more time solving problems.

Jason: What is one mistake to avoid?

Jason: Getting involved in trouble or talking during class.

Nick: Following friends into bad choices because then education goes down.

Jason: What is one thing that made your year better?

Nick: My puppy Kaido and trying my hardest.

Jason: How did your puppy help?

Nick: Instead of being lonely, he helped calm me down and helped me move around more instead of staying inside.

Jason: What is one habit that helped you?

Nick: Medicine and focus.

Jason: Avoiding distractions and loud noises.

Jason: What should students do on the first day of school?

Jason: Pay attention, listen, and don’t get in trouble.

Nick: Bring everything you learned from fourth grade into fifth grade and stay focused.

Jason: What should next year’s students do to make this podcast great?

Nick: Have a clear voice.

Jason: Take it seriously and don’t mess around.

Jason: What advice do you have for speaking on the mic?

Jason: Don’t be nervous and have confidence.

Nick: Don’t give up and keep going for your goals.

Jason: What makes a good podcast episode?

Nick: Having a clear voice.

Jason: Everyone participating, saying positive things, and having conversations.

Jason: What should students not do?

Jason: Don’t talk bad about others or say mean things behind people’s backs.

Nick: Don’t be disrespectful because you’ll get in trouble.

Jason: Why does student voice matter?

Jason: Because you are explaining who you are and what you mean to the world.

Nick: Because we matter.

Jason: What should the next class continue?

Jason: The podcast and the good vibes.

Nick: Keep making episodes and keep doing great work.

Jason: Thanks for listening to The BAGO Mic.

Nick: Remember, your voice matters, our story matters, and you matter.
