Episode Summary

In this episode of The BAGO Mic, students talk about their New Year’s resolutions and goals for 2026. They reflect on proud achievements from last year and share areas where they want to improve moving forward.

One student shares a proud moment of winning a challenging basketball game against a tough team. They talk about the size of the opposing team, the difficulty of the matchup, and the pride of earning the win. The conversation highlights competition, teamwork, and perseverance.

Academically, both students share a goal of getting better at math. They explain that understanding subjects more deeply and improving their performance is important to them. Outside of school, goals include getting better at basketball and spending more time with family.

The episode closes with reflections about practicing every day, working on shooting skills, and staying consistent even when something feels hard. Their voices show that growth comes from repetition, focus, and a willingness to keep improving.

Hainipi (hi-Ne Pee)… that means hi, hey, or hello in a friendly way.

Hi everyone! Welcome to The BAGO Mic, powered by student voice—where students lead the way.

We are students from Winnebago Public Schools, broadcasting from the Winnebago Native American Reservation in Winnebago, Nebraska. This podcast is created by us… for the world.

Let’s start by introducing ourselves.

My name is Katsumi.

My name is Easton.

Today’s episode is about: New Year’s resolutions and goals for 2026.

Before we begin, we want to share something we’re thankful for:

I’m thankful for palms.

I’m thankful for my family.

Now let’s get into it!

Once again, the topic we are talking about is New Year’s resolutions and goals for 2026.

What is one thing you are proud of from last year at school or in your life?

Winning a basketball game.

What did you go against?

Howell.

Were they hard or easy to beat?

They were kind of hard to beat.

How many people did they have on their team?

Like a whole bunch. Like 10? More than 10?

Probably 15.

How many were on your team?

I don’t know. I didn’t count.

What was your team called?

Warpath.

What is one school-related goal you want to work on in 2026?

I want to get better at math.

Yeah, I want to get better at math too.

Why is this school goal important to you?

It is important to me because I love math and I want to understand every subject.

What is one goal you have outside of school for 2026?

Honestly, I don’t know. Maybe hanging out with family more.

I want to get better at basketball more.

Are you in basketball right now?

Yeah, I’ve got practice tonight.

What might make it hard to stick with your goal?

It could be hard and you can’t always do it.

What is one small step you can take to work toward your goal?

Work on it every day and try to get better at it.

Like shooting hoops more.

Yeah.

Who is someone who can help or encourage you with your goals?

Maybe teachers and family.

For me, it’s my mom and my dad.

How can teachers or adults help students reach their goals this year?

They can help by explaining, talking, and practicing every day with students to help them more.

How can friends support each other with New Year’s resolutions?

If someone says they’re not going to do something, their friends can help them stay on track and not do that.

What advice would you give to another student who wants to improve or try something new in 2026?

Try to get A’s and B’s in school.

That can help them do better in school. And if they’re doing bad, they can be better.

What do you want to get better at in basketball?

My shooting.

Are you aiming for a specific place on the hoop?

Just to make it go in the hoop.

From how far away?

From the back.

That’s cool. I used to do basketball, but I’m better at passing.
