Own Your Choices
Leadership starts when you stop giving away responsibility for the choices that belong to you.
1. Sort What Belongs to You
You are not responsible for everything. You are responsible for your own words, effort, actions, honesty, and next choices.
2. Watch for Responsibility Escape Hatches
- “Everybody else was doing it.”
- “They made me mad.”
- “I forgot, so it doesn’t count.”
- “I only did it because they told me to.”
Other people can influence you. The question is still: What part of this choice was mine?
3. Use the Ownership Sentence
“I chose ________. The result was ________. My next choice is ________.”
Try It
You were talking during work time because your friend kept starting conversations. What part belongs to your friend, and what part belongs to you?
💡 Funky Tip
Responsibility gives you power. If every problem is always somebody else’s fault, you also give somebody else control over whether anything changes.
I matter.
Your choices have an effect. That is one reason they matter.
