Hamilton: Learning History Through Music

Hamilton is a musical that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and the beginning of the United States. It uses hip-hop, singing, rhythm, and storytelling to show how people made important choices that shaped our country.

We use parts of Hamilton in 5th Grade to help make history exciting, fun, and easy to understand. The music helps us imagine what life was like during the American Revolution and why these events still matter today.

Why We Use Hamilton in Class

We use Hamilton because it helps students:

  • understand history through music, emotion, and storytelling

  • see that historical figures were real people with real feelings

  • make connections to leadership, courage, and identity

  • feel excited about learning how our country began

We use a mix of:

  • songs from the Disney+ Hamilton musical, and

  • school-friendly videos made by Working with Lemons, a family YouTube team that recreates Hamilton songs in real life.
