What Makes Working With Others Powerful — with Trevor, Sean, and Etta

Episode Summary

In this episode of The BAGO Mic, three students shift the conversation from challenges to strengths by exploring what makes working with others powerful.

They describe good teamwork as staying on task, listening to each other’s ideas, focusing, and contributing equally. The students share moments when they felt proud of their groups—especially when presentations went well, posters turned out strong, or questions were answered correctly as a team.

The conversation highlights the importance of listening so details aren’t missed and projects don’t fall apart. They explain how trust is foundational to teamwork—without honesty and reliability, groups struggle to succeed. Truthfulness builds confidence and allows members to depend on one another.

They connect teamwork to sports like football, baseball, and basketball, emphasizing passing the ball, playing positions, and encouraging teammates. They also extend the idea of teamwork to community and culture—trusting leaders, supporting one another, and contributing to events and shared responsibilities.

The episode closes with a powerful message: participation, encouragement, and collaboration make groups stronger. Working together allows problems to be solved faster and creates success that wouldn’t be possible alone.

Hainipi (hi-Ne Pee)… that means hi, hey, or hello in a friendly way.

Hi everyone! Welcome to The BAGO Mic, powered by student voice—where students lead the way.

We are students from Winnebago Public Schools, broadcasting from the Winnebago Native American Reservation in Winnebago, Nebraska. This podcast is created by us… for the world.

Let’s start by introducing ourselves.

I’m Trevor.

I’m Sean

My name is Etta

Today’s episode is about: What makes working with others powerful.

Before we begin, we want to share something we’re thankful for:

I’m thankful for my family.

I’m thankful for shelter.

I’m thankful for my dog, my sister, my mom and dad, and grandma and Choko.

Now let’s get into it!

Once again, the topic we are talking about is what makes working with others powerful.

So what does good teamwork look like?

When you work on the subject as a team and you don’t get off task.

Listening is really important. Hearing other people’s ideas can help a lot with what you’re doing.

Always be a great teammate. Whatever task you’re on, just work on it and focus.

If you don’t focus, you’ll get off task and the project won’t turn out as well.

When have you ever felt proud of your group?

When we got questions right.

In fourth grade, we did posters and presentations. Our group did really good and our grade was good.

When you’re writing and spelling words correctly together.

Why is listening important in a group?

Sometimes I answer questions. Sometimes I stay quiet.

Why stay quiet?

Because sometimes I don’t know the answer.

Listening is important because you might miss a detail that could ruin the whole project. You should focus on whoever is speaking and the ideas they share.

How does trust help a group succeed?

If you lose trust, nobody can trust you. Lying is not good, and you can’t just buy trust back.

Trust is important because people can trust you with the work. Without trust, you argue and can’t get anything done.

If you want to be trusted, you have to tell the truth.

How does teamwork connect to sports?

In football, you have to pass the ball. Same in baseball.

In basketball, you have to pass the ball and work together so you can win.

Teamwork helps you succeed in whatever you’re doing.

How does teamwork connect to our community or culture?

You have to trust the people helping in the community. You trust others to keep the reservation clean and support the culture.

You need to trust trusted adults and stay away from untrustworthy people.

When people contribute to events or gatherings, like hosting powwows, everyone has to work together.

What happens when everyone contributes?

You solve problems faster and get the work done quicker.

Participation is necessary in school, sports, and everything else.

What can encouragement change in a group?

It makes people focus easier and stay on task.

Encouragement keeps teammates motivated. It helps them use their strengths in the project.

Why are we stronger together than alone?

It’s easier to figure out problems faster.

There are more people to help. If someone struggles, others can step in. Work gets done faster.

When you’re alone, you don’t have that same support.

You need friends. You need people with you. Stay healthy, get enough rest and food, and work together.
